Last autumn when I visited family my uncle gave me a small jar to start my own water kefir. I'm hooked ever since and make a bottle every week.
Have you ever had water kefir?

So, water kefir uses basically the same grains that give milk kefir, but with water and fruit and they produce something that is akin to a natural lemonade, if you will.
The fermented foods are quite good for our gut flora, although careful about the sugar and also it is known that having there is such a thing as too much of a good thing when it comes to fermented foods. But they should be consumed regularly.

I confess I have never heard of it. Until that last family visit I only knew kefir that's made with milk. Water kefir was totally new to me. Imho it has a pleasant tart taste and after the first ferment you can also add ingredients to influence the taste. My favorite so far is adding some ginger. Then it's a bit like Ginger Ale - just less sweet than commercial beverages. I also found out that it's quite a nice ingredient to top up cocktails :-)
