Worryingly according to Which? Magazine:

"The fact that a quarter of claims aren't paid is really concerning and suggests that these products could be kind of better constructed so people know what they are getting."

I have the mind set that no insurance will pay out so I never rely on it, especially travel insurance, even if I take it out. You have to have it for some things by law, but having it and getting it to pay out is another thing.

i have the mind set that no insurance company will pay out on first demand... they know that most clients will give up if denied so we have to persuade them that we are not pushovers so they will, indeed, pay out...

I've never had a claim refused, but then I've never had a really large one.
