A former Sergeant of the Marine Corp took a new job as a High School teacher. Just before the school year started, he injured his back. He was required to wear a plaster cast around the upper part of his body. Fortunately, the cast fit under his shirt and wasn’t noticeable.
On the first day of class, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in the school. The smart punks, having already heard the new teacher was a former Marine, were leery of him and he knew they would be testing his discipline in the classroom. Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, the new teacher opened the window wide and sat down at his desk. When a strong breeze made his tie flap, he picked up a stapler and stapled the tie to his chest.
There was dead silence… the rest of the year went quite smoothly.

I used to get whacked for using my left hand in penmanship class.
(Clever joke, by the way!)

While navigating away from this thread back to The Daily Gossip, I inadvertently clicked on a banner ad and now 50 Blissy "game-changer" pillowcases are en route to my doorstep.

when the catholic school kids left & came to our elementary school, they told tales of rulers on hands & buttocks those nuns were nasty Remember too, corporal punishment was accepted as part of every day school life. A ruler on the hand was nothing - I used to get “the cuts” every First Friday of each month. The reason? Mass was in Latin then, it was boring, you were not allowed to talk during Mass, every First Friday the whole school went to Mass, I used to talk with my friends. There was a nun at the end of every second pew. Every girl who talked had their name called out after Mass was finished. You had to go to the grade 6, 7, and 8 classroom and Mother Superior who always looked very stern, gave you six of the best - a thick leather strap across the palm of your hands. It used to hurt like hell. I’d literally bite my tongue, press my lips together to stop the tears. But not all orders were like this. We moved house and I attended a different school for grade six. That school had the Sacred Heart nuns who were very different. The entire worshipped the head nun, Mother Mary William affectionately known as “Old Willie”!

I thought it was all due to sexual repression until we all found out what dens of depravity the Church actually harbored.

Trentt, we had the Brigidene Nuns at my first school. They were an Irish order, very stern, very strict. I went there from Kindergarten to end of Grade V.
The parents bought a new house out the other side of town so Grade VI was at a different school which was run by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. They were totally different - I couldn’t believe how different they were. They didn’t seem strict at all, and yet there was discipline, no nonsense and everybody loved them our teacher was Sister Mary Saint Steven.
There was no such thing as the strap, and only boys ever got hit with a cane and it had to be very, very, bad for that to happen.
