Dame Edna has died at the grand age of 89. Dame Edna Everage aka Barry Humphries died 22 April 2023 in Sydney. A great wit, satirist, writer and an absolute one-of-kind, he was both gifted and a gift (Twitter)
Known endearingly as the housewife from Moonee Ponds, Mrs Edna Everage, spouse of Norman "Norm" Stoddard Everage (until 1988; his death), her call sign was a cheery, “Hello Possums!” With her purple hair (waved in a 1950’s perm), big fancy glasses, over the top makeup and bright clothing, she was one of Australia’s well loved icons. She loved gladdies - gladioli.
A very funny man, a well loved character, he was a brilliant entertainer and actor. Unfortunately, I am unable to post a photo….maybe one of the mods could help out?
Edna Everage was made a Dame in 1974.

I saw one of his/her shows in London. Wonderful of course. At the end there was thunderous applause. A man in a box stood up and chucked a bunch of gladdies towards the stage. Unfortunately he was too vigororous with his throw and toppled over the railing of the box. Screams of horror from the audience. Don't worry, possums, there was a rope round his waist to save him. It was part of the show.

He was also a bit polarizing with some of his comments, but he certainly kept an audience alert and waiting for the next laugh.
