sadly there is no celebration here no vendors handing out flyers lots of store discounts some really expensive lectures maybe a concert no street parties

here, it is a public holiday (has only been so for a few years - since berlin has one of the lowest number of public holidays in germany, they wanted to add another one, discussion was between women's day, 8th of may (i'd have liked that one best for its meaning, but it'd be at a time of year when there are a lot of holidays, already) and reformation day (advantage would have been, that the surrounding region of brandenburg has that one as a holiday, and many people live there and work in berlin, but i suppose a lot of people in berlin didn't want another religious holiday) from what i remember ... in the end, they decided for women's day ...
