How much spice in your food?
Do you eat very hot or very bland or somewhere in between?
If you do eat hot to very hot, do you have any tips on what cools your system down?
I am particularly interested in opinions of those who have visited countries such as Thailand, etc...

I like and tolerate hot to very hot.. my husband doesn’t. Yogurt is usually the go-to cool down for him. I generally tone things down when I cook at home. I also know my limits: some peppers (thinking scotch bonnets as an example) are too hot for me. I remember one little green pepper in Thailand which hurt more coming out than going in…

I am very tolerant of chillies. I think this is because I have been so often to Thailand. Opposite our house in Chipping Sodbury there is an Indian restaurant. On the menu there was a dish that they said if you could eat it then it would be free. Of course I ate it. And I had to pay for it. I had a very good Indian friend whose brother-in-law was African, from Togo. They used to put a bowl of chillies on the dining table and see who could eat the most. I think it numbed their palate for the food to come.

when i was in elementary school we were the farthest west subdivision, encroaching on the old ranches of the west san fernando valley... so a significant proportion of my classmates were chicano... they would bring fresh chili peppers to munch on during recess...

Spicy? Yes almost always.
Hot? Not so much.
Here the dominant spice is Pimentón. This is where it was first produced in Europe. I am not sure when it became known as paprika. Even Hot Pimentón is not fiery. It is sold loose by the Kilo in the markets, it is cheap and I like it and eat a lot of it. Also various Masalas, also not hot, plus tumeric, and what have you.
For hot, just black pepper and cayenne but not so you can't taste anything else.

very hot & spicy raised on mexican food, trips to thailand, india raita cools things down w indian food often it's a beer w mexican food. tho i know many people used to eat huge amounts of serrano chili ting soda when ive had too much scotch bonnet w my jerk chicken
