Next week we are having friends for dinner. We haven't had them at our dining table for three years because she is such a difficult person to cater for. When they first came I asked if there was anything they didn't eat (a wise precaution these days - back in the Polite Ages you just ate what was put in front of you). This is the email she sent:
"Tony eats most things but not me. I eat white fish as long as it is not too fishy. Cod, haddock, sea bass and trout are all good. No shellfish or moluscs. No pork - but I eat sausages and bacon. No offal - but I eat paté. No rabbit. No nuts - but I am not allergic. Eggs are fine in cooking but I can't stand them on their own. Chocolate and cream are OK in small amounts. Best wishes. Diane"

Cook whatever you wish, she can pick and choose out of the offerings. No medical issues, so you are safe!

Yes, and I don't eat vegetarians anymore so everyone is safe. Last time I was in Hungary I saw a T-shirt that read (in English): Save a pig - eat a vegetarian

Fussy eaters spoil all the fun. Friend's husband is a bit like that as well. They've been invited twice and each time it was really difficult to come up with a complete meal because of him being so fussy.

I am a very fussy eater, but I would never think of giving a list of what I am not eating. If I am asked I would tell you, no lentils and no brussel sprouts.(all the other stuff I would keep to myself and hope for the best 😎)

Don't boil them. Roast them with anchovies and garlic.

There is no excuse for Brussels sprouts.
They belong to the little ice age and should return and remain there.

Brussels sprouts are one of my favourite vegetables! Not overcooked of course but - like Baz suggested - roasted in the oven. Oh, yumm! When I was a kid, friends & family used to make fun of me because most of them where more in line with slowcoach.
This thread also reminded me of the one time an acquaintance needed a ride to town and we decided to have lunch there together. It was catastrophic! Calling this person a "fussy eate" would be an understatement. First, it took more than an hour to decide on a restaurant. When we finally sat down somewhere, for every singel dish on the menu there was a constraint. In the end she ordered something but ended up nibbling away on only the bread.

We ate lunch with a fussy eater a while back. He said he didn't eat gluten. We were surprised when he ordered a beef pie. When it was served he took all the pastry off and ate the middle.

I can tell you that if my brother could eat it and not violently empty this gut on the loo afterwards... he would eat it. he really really misses proper bread.
