I almost never get potatoes. if I buy a bag of potatoes, I've got to cook potatoes with all my meals until the pack is finished.
I also noticed that most desserts sold in the supermarket are packed two portions together. Pushes me to go to the artisan bakeries. not a bad outcome.
also, especially at the moment, I mostly have stuff that is fast and easy to prepare.
Is there stuff you never or rarely get anymore because it doesn't fit your lifestyle anymore?

Our menus have changed since Mrs Faz developed an intolerance to gluten and lactose. I try to make certain we eat the same things. Cheese is a big problem. There is lactose-free feta and cream cheese but no blue cheese or parmesan (at least not round here). Mrs Faz doesn't really like red meat (though we are having a brisket tonight). I won't put steak on the menu but have it myself when she goes for a night's family visit.
Can you not buy loose potatoes? Supermarkets sell them here. The pink fir apple potatoes we are having tonight come from a fellow allotmenteer.
Talking of eating tonight, I must go downstairs and into the kitchen.

I regularly shop for one when Mrs M is away or I am away from her. Don't have much of a problem as most things are sold separate, like potatoes and other veg. Meat tends to be in a packet for two or more but I don't eat a lot of that anyway. For Nachtish (dessert) I tend to eat yogurts which come in a large tub that gives me three or four days of it or in the double pack which just means I have enough for two days, be they consecutive or not. I sometimes have those tubs of Wackelpudding (jelly) which if they are the usual four, will last me a week. If I buy something which is always too big, like a cauliflower, then some of it will get made into a soup which goes into the freezer. So nope, don't have a problem with shopping just for me.
Stuff I don't get so much of because it doesn't suit my lifestyle anymore is usually pastry products like pasties, pies, sausage rolls etc.

There is lactose-free feta and cream cheese but no blue cheese or parmesan (at least not round here). The lactose level in cheese can be mostly ignored. The older the cheese the lesser the lactose in it. If they have a label on it that says lactose-free it just means you have to pay more.

I don't have a problem to shop food just for me. I usually buy a 1kg bag of potatoes (or even 2kg) they sit in my kitchen sometimes for only a week sometimes for over a month. They don't turn bad they just get wrinkles. I got a veggie box last week. Yeah, I will have to eat quite a few dishes with bell peppers but I love them. Only problem is milk. I don't drink milk, I would only use it for a handful soul food dishes. But I have friends and family who drink milk with their tea or coffee.

Encouraged by Wikki I have bought lots of previously forbidden cheese for Mrs Faz. She had a tasty lunch.

Wrinkly potatoes that are spongy are best cooked as chips. Frying will cure just about anything. Buying for one would feel strange at first if you had bought for two or three or more for much of your life, but once you have the amount you need in your head, it is fairly easy. My advice is this, when cooking your dinner, cook for two, eat one, freeze one. You will eventually have a couple of weeks of not having to cook. Then start all over again.

I think if I had to shop and cook for one, I would buy prepared foods far more often or eat out more.

I think if I had to shop and cook for one, I would buy prepared foods far more often or eat out more. For the past couple of years, I have been buying ready cooked meals. They are fresh, made in Australia, and only require 2 minutes on high in the microwave. The ingredients and nutritional chart are listed. I get nine meals, four yoghurts, and five 100ml multivitamin boosta.

I did not and don’t usually have the means to eat out all the time and ready made here is not what I am looking for most of the time. Now that I am about to have just a little bit more time I enjoy the thought of cooking again for myself every day
