So, tomorrow, I'm due to see a patient in the morning, then I have the afternoon to prepare for this weekend.
This weekend consists in working all day Friday, then train travel to almost my destination for Saturday, hotel stay overnight then an excursion all day Saturday, getting back home late on Saturday night.
I first thought I should make my savoury cake, but the thought of baking it Thursday night, take it with me at work where there is no fridge and it is quite warm at this time of year, then carry it with me all the way...
I think the new plan will be to find things at the market on Friday morning (fruit, bread, nuts, etc...)
What would you take with you if you needed easily transportable picnic food that won't need refrigeration and that won't weigh me down too much?

I would take a pork pie (but that may not be an option in Swissieland). Incidentally a butcher friend advises us we should not put pork pies in the fridge as that harms the pastry, His pork pies are gold medal winners so his advice must be good.

Those English pork pies! A delicacy only an Englishman could appreciate. The very worst thing I ever tasted when I was in England was a pork pie, my God it was disgusting! Ohf! Cold and bluerwk! Their gammon is nice though.
Annie, your idea of buying some things at the market is a good one. Bread or rolls, cucumber 🥒 tomato 🍅, small tin of tuna 🍣 (make sure it’s the ring pull one), nuts, chocolate and more chocolate, health bars, fruit bars. Traveller’s mug, tea towel (terry towelling is best). Do you have a travelling cutlery set? Small thermos is good for hot and cold liquids.
