Tonight we are having a pasta starter. The sauce will be tomato, onion and...
...Marmite.

The test panel (Mrs Faz) gave it a thumbs up. I was very cautious with the Marmite. Next time I'll use a bit more.

One of the biggest concerns with eating marmite comes from its high sodium content. Just 5 grams of marmite is 7% (166 mg) of a person's recommended daily dose of sodium, which means that eating too much Marmite may lead to hypernatremia, or sodium poisoning.

Indeed Marmite tastes very salty. That is why one spreads so little on a slice of buttered bread. I hadn't realised that having private health insurance would lower its salt content. I like Marmite but don't eat it often (Mrs Faz has a bit every day). Incidentally a survey suggests that 98% of Australian households have a jar of Vegemite in the pantry. Vegemite is a patriotic spread. Are the 2% who don't eat Vegemite languishing in prison?
