And I crossed the Indian and Pacific oceans to Vancouver with 350 Australian Air Force plots on board and we had to sleep on deck because of the German U-boats trying to find us.

I think we need to know how/when/why you guys got married in Ulan Bator ! Early 80s? wow. Still not safe to look like a Russian ( ie European) in the streets. i wanted to get married @ a domed church in irkutsk. i spoke to the cultural attache in ny about arranging it. he was full of information about this but it was too much of a hassle. our guide/fixer set it up. we spoke w his family monk, who approved of our union then we went to the state dept store to buy dell, the mongolian national costume we went to the temple the following day had an amazing time w the monks chanting prayers. the boys monks running around afterwards. then we headed to the hotel, threw a huge party including a group of canadian teachers we met oh & we hitchhiked to the temple we got back on the transsiberian & headed to moscow

What a cool story - and having heard it we definitely NEED a pic ! on your drive back to maine, voy, stop by for coffee, ill show you the photos of the whole wedding train the ladies @ the hostel twirled me around to get my sash right. i had done it the men's way bc our guide/fixer, bb taught tzar the official proof of marriage was the scarves the head monk gave us & a written blessing from the monk who performed the ceremony the nun sang me this amazing prayer. i can still smell the juniper incense we had yak butter cakes @ the hotel. i did get cake cake @ fauchon in paris later ps we ran into our fixer @ a dc cafe. he had married an american woman & was in college! right before covidtimes, he wrote that he would be in the us w a mongolian delegation. we were out of town, so we missed

I guess you could write about how Lhasa has changed... but it would be a sad story. The incense is still amazing, though...
