Back in 2020 Sweden was the darling of the its just a bad cold, get over yourself brigade.
From article "Evaluation of science advice during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden" published in "Nature":
In the body of the article there are accusation tantamount to murder, e.g.:

UK Covid symptoms list expanded with nine more signs of illness.Having waited for nearly two years for an up to date symptom list, which would have meant many more reported cases, more testing, more isolation, and arguably prevented many deaths, the UK government has finally issued a new list now that free testing for the masses has been withdrawn. Cynicism Rules OK!

slow that is really confusing the new symptoms overlap many illnesses Yes, that's why easy, affordable ( and for some that means free) testing is just so vital. It is plausibly why they didn't publish the list while testing was free for the majority of people. From a reliable UK source ( ZOE COVID Study) the advice in the UK is that if you have the symptoms of a cold, it is more than likely it is COVID-19. There is simply more COVID-19 than colds.

CORRECTION: From a reliable UK source ( ZOE COVID Study) the advice in the UK is that if you have the symptoms of a cold, it is more than likely it is COVID-19 EVEN IF YOU TEST NEGATIVE ON A RAPID TEST! That may not apply to more sensible countries where the prevalence is not so high, currently around 1 in 13 of the population in the UK.

From the UKHSA advice to people with undiagnosed respiratory disease:
They say this knowing that a high temperature is no longer a distinctive symptom of COVID-19 (occurring in less than one third of cases) in the UK.

My wife's granddaughter's half uncle has been seriously injured but should survive.
She is Anglo-Ukrainian-Polish, her uncle a Ukrainian career paratrooper. Having successfully defeated the invaders in the North, (we believe in and around those places currently in the news), his vehicle was hit as they were redeploying to Donbas.
He was evacuated to a hospital in Kyiv, has been operated on, and with the exception of his spleen is all in one piece but not in great shape.
Sad but he was doing what he wanted to do.

To begin, he is (note the use of present tense) the granddaughter's half brother not uncle as I had indicated above, both she and their mutual mother visited here a few years ago. He had been in an induced coma until today or yesterday but is now awake and has been in touch with his mother by video call. In the last few days the prognosis has been moderate to good, then dire to hopeless, then now much better. He is apparently cheerful all things considered.

I don't speak Ukrainian, and beyond the Kids (діти) spray painted in the passages, I have no idea what is said or if anything confirms a recent date.
The Azov Battalion (aka Azov Regiment) has a telegram channel on which they are still posting most days but not so much as they used to.

Step Grandson, out of hospital and into recuperation. Still a bag of broken ribs but they need the bed for someone in greater need. I see that the BBC have found the Azov media feed and its videos from the Mariupol bunkers and have broadcast clips from the one above this and from today's.
News as reported from the new front line (Visegrád) states differ substantially from UK/EU sources, many more reports on the (alleged?) fires and explosions occurring at industrial and weapons establishments in Russia, at least one East of Moscow. And on the recent deaths of oligarchs, at least three since the invasion. Including the one here in Spain which either is or isn't a murder/suicide. A family hacked to death and a hanged man. Also a strong anti-German and anti-French tone, they are viewed as being less than helpful, but also of profiteering (France) during the arms embargo that date back to the occupation of Crimea.

We, the people, all 20 of us in the village, held out all the pandemic without anyone succumbing.
Now, the pandemic is over, there is no need for precautions and all the Easter visitors and second homers come and go without a care.
Our eldest married couple, both well into their eighties, are currently sick with COVID-19, and it is all so bleeding unnecessary and stupid.
We don't know how sick they are or their prospects.
We are so hacked off.
Hacked wasn't the word I uttered.

sad to hear, slow... we are still taking precautions and masking in public... So are we all, if a little belatedly. The meeting places are now deserted, the ancients have retreated in doors. There has always been a sense that people should be cautious but they don't like to swim against the tide of opinion.
ETA, the source has been identified as being a visiting daughter, not a comfortable state of affairs.

The “Ukraine Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act of 2022” has passed Congress (with overwhelming support) and awaits President Biden's signature: It is a one sheet of paper act and the gist is: I don't know how much difference, if any, it will make in practice, but its symbolism is immense: The Arsenal of Democracy

In England around one in five school pupils are entitled to free school meals.
The barrier to obtaining them is a high one, their household must be on benefits and the household income must not exceed £7,400/annum after tax.
Should that earning threshold be exceeded, the entitlement is lost amounting to about £300-£380/annum/schoolchild.
So in a two child family a little to much paid employment could cost them around 10% of their earned income and represents a marginal tax rate >100%.
This in addition to the benefits that would be clawed back at the taper rate at 55% of earnings. e.g. earn and extra £1 and lose 55p from your benefits.
Unless things have changed enormously, children understand poverty and carry it as a personal burden.
This is cruel way to treat children.
