Say, you're visiting Switzerland and I'm showing you around. Where would you like to go?

The places I saw would be high on my list.. Mount Pilatus, Lake Lucerne ( and Lucerne), Interlaken.. for me, the mountain vistas were stunning. So was the hiking. And since we had our son with us (he was 4 then) the town where William Tell did his thing with the apple and arrow!!

I have memories, quite vague, of a trip round Lac Léman (as it was marked on our map), crossing between France and Switzerland, transported by paddle steamer.
I believe the steamers still exist, but not I think the route, nor the inexpensive ticket, for what was more a sequence of ferry trips than a cruise.
Running from France to Lausanne and on to Geneva and returning to France (probably Thonon-les-Bains, we were camped nearby) it took from afternoon till late.
Do you run trips down memory's lanes, through past's lost countries?
Just Joking!

Everything we did when I was there with you and the rest of the gang all over again. That was so good. I'd like to be told a little hike is a very LONG hike next time though. It was so beautiful though. Zurich did not make me a happy woman. I found it boring but maybe didn't research it enough. For sure if someone is new there they have to go on the Bernina express train and get a carriage like we had with glass above you to see it all.

I have loved every trip to Switzerland, whether passing through alone (rarely sleeping there due to the expense of hotels) or visiting my friend in Zürich (and also when he was living in Lenzburg in earlier times). However, to address the subject, on one trip to Zürich in February, I was taken on a day trip to Andermatt, with a stop in some intermediate place which was sensational. I don't remember the name of the town, but it was a major pilgrimage place near the lake with a very impressive basilica. And it is also the place where I discovered saffron liqueur. Anywhere, here is the report about Andermatt. anyportinastorm.proboards.com/thread/6975/andmattAnd so this, auntiannie, is the sort of thing that you should show visitors to Switzerland.

As for Andermatt, it's already in the plans.

Turning this around. Except a quick winter trip to Geneva twenty years ago I've never been to Switzerland. What would you recommend as the highlights for effectively a first time visitor.

Einsiedeln? Is that the name of the place? Yes, that's the place. I still have a tiny bit of saffron liqueur from there.
