Decided that our Christmas Eve dinner is going to be the feast of the seven fishes. Except fish = seafood.
The seven "courses" will be:
1. ahi poke (was thinking of caviar or else a little bit of sashimi, but wasn't sure of finding the first at a reasonable price, or finding the second at all. Found this stuff frozen which is cheating a bit, but I'll make up for it with the other 6 courses)
2. smoked salmon with capers and a squeeze of lemon on crackers (I smoked some salmon filets last week)
3. shrimp cocktail
4. Grilled oysters with brie (made these a few times years ago and we liked them so thought I'd bring them out again)
5. scallops vientiane (sp?) on a small portion of linguine. (Might add some asparagus to this so that there is a little bit of vegetable in this meal!)
6. romaine salad with feta and anchovies
7. crab legs (or possibly lobster tails) with drawn butter
I hope everything works well together. We may have the first 3 appetizers at the same time a little in advance of the rest.

YOu know, I almost got some tonight. Can I make it the feast of the 8 fishes?
(Actually, it's just that Mr_S doesn't like it. This meal is for the 2 of us so I should make sure that every course is something he likes too.)

Sounds good. Traditionally I do a scallop starter on Christmas Eve.I wonder what scallops Vientiane could be. The city is a long way from the sea and the Mekong there doesn't look as if it could support any sea life.

I got it wrong - it's Venetian Scallops. Although I don't know that scallops live near Venice, either.

Thanks Annie! It was very good.
We had poke in Hawaii several years ago and both really like it. This wasn't bad at all for coming out of a packet. Lots of chunks of nice tasting tuna and a good sauce. I added avocado, green onion, and sesame seeds.
