No, no this is not about a meal at an Indian restaurant but by a lunch given by a man called Curry. On top of that unusual surname his first name is Steele (with the extra E). He is from Calgary in Canada and is rich. I don't know what his business was but he made zillions. As good rich businessmen should he gives back to the community with a number of projects.
His interest has for years now been collecting crime/thriller/mystery novels. He has 5000 first editions. He has all 12 of my novels in first editions and he decided he wanted me to sign them. So he flew to London and invited me to lunch. There was another author there plus Mike Ripley who not only writes but reviews crime books (and who organised the lunch).
We met at the Gilbert Scott restaurant which is in a Victorian hotel (designed by the architect GS). It is very grand. The restaurant is run by Marcus Wareing who also has another restaurant bearing his name and which has 2 Michelin stars. The lunch today was not of Michelin 2 star standard but was enjoyable anyway. We ate different dishes - I had a duck ham starter, roast sea bass for main and a chocolate mille feuille dessert.
As you would expect when writers get together (and someone else is paying the bill) a certain amount of booze was drunk. We had an aperitif while deciding what to eat and drinking a toast to the author Philip Kerr who died last week. Then Steele knew a delicious Provencale rose wine, and a couple of bottle slipped down well. It would have been churlish to refuse an armagnac with the coffee.
So a good lunch.

Sounds great! A little wining and dining for the famous author(s)!
