Meaning overspecialized or similarly non-utile. Ours is probably a recent acquisition (with the excuse that it was a crafts fair and Ms. TFC felt obliged to buy something): a bagel-specific egg poacher. That is, it's earthenware shaped as a circular, bagel-sized trough. You crack an egg into it and then microwave, thus producing an egg poached in a ring that fits atop a bagel. But how often does anyone pair poached eggs with that specific base? Is it really a problem to have egg covering the hole? Wouldn't pan-poached shakshuka taste better? And what price radial asymmetry?

I want one of those now though.
I have a cheese knife that never gets used. Even when there are visitors.

I want one of those now though. Just an untried idea -- in case, having learned it's avoidable, you can no longer stand to have an egg's center cover your bagel's hole. A cup-and-saucer set with a good lip or depth can substitute for the bagel poacher. Bonus: after lifting the nuked egg onto a bagel, you'll have a warmed plate for the bagel and a warm (if slightly eggy on the outside) cup for tea or coffee.

I used to be a sucker for all sorts of single purpose kitchen junk, especially when I used to entertain a lot and had a huge kitchen to store all the junk. An electric ice crusher was my most useless piece which took up valuable real estate in the cupboard.

I bought one of those spiraliser things a few years back and have never used it.

The bread machine. I do all sorts of bread without one now and it's way better especially my sourdough a Sydney blogger sent me and taught me to make.

I'm planning to buy a bread maker because I don't feel like kneading dough and having to time the rising etc before cooking. I will be happy to put all of the ingredients into the machine and then eat the bread without any effort.

No don't bother! I can give you some recipes that are no-knead so why take up space with one? They really aren't great. The top is pale when baked. I didn't like that. You have to let the dough rise either way.

You have to let the dough rise either way. Please do send me your easiest recipe and I'll try it out before buying a machine. I am a little time poor these days so I do overlook some things in order to gain convenience. We have to drive to a specific place to buy our western bread here which obviously takes time and costs us for parking each week (not to mention most of our freezer space is taken up by bread) so I'd like to have a go at making it myself.

I have a bread machine and I've always been happy with the results - my tops are nice and brown.
That said, I only use it now and then. I'll make bread a few times, then forget that I have it for a year. Then I remember and make a few again, then forget again...
The best part is that you can put the ingredients in the night before you want fresh bread and program it to be ready at exactly the time you want it. Nothing like waking up to the smell of fresh bread ready to eat!
For uselessness... can't really think of much that I don't use at least now and then.

A lot of the kitchen equipment would go into this category, I think. At least all these pieces of equipment that aren't used every single day. Simply because they take space.
However, my parents bought a simple vegetable grater a few months ago, as their trusty old one had given up the ghost. The one they bought was so crap that they've relegated it to the "to give away/recycle" pile after two uses. THAT is a useless piece of equipment in my opinion.

It is more a question of how much they cost which is one of the reasons I haven't yet bought a bread maker. I could fairly easily find this out but it is one of many easy things that has been on my to-do list for a long time.

My friend would say My Oven. I very rarely use it although I have a mini bench one I can pull out from a little cupboard so use that instead.
