Not sure I mentioned it, but a couple months ago, news got to Switzerland that a young Swiss couple was beaten up near Fatehpur Sikri in UP state of India, after their attackers said something they didn't understand.
I am a little ashamed that I immediately recalled that my travellers' guide at the time of my visit to the place, roughly 20 years ago, was already urging people not to stay near fatehpur sikri. i.e. to go admire it, but then go back towards Agra or continue on to somewhere else, and to take precautions in the vicinity of the place. mentioning exactly the kind of unpleasant experience this young couple endured.
Am I making this up or do you remember any similar warning, for either that area or any other place, that was actually justified?

It was probably closer to 35 years ago and as with the others - we visited then headed out.
