Is our holiday doomed? We are flying first to Malaysia, then to Bali. The problems with Mt Agung in Bali are well known.
But will we even be able to fly from Britain?
unpronounceable Öræfajökull last erupted in 1722
This volcano is in Iceland and is waking up. When an Iceland volcano erupted about 7 years ago the ash stopped flights over Europe for a week.

Sometimes for the Helluvad I open the map at ja.is and zoom into a random place name or two. Today (with allowances for an English keyboard) I give you Ofuguggavatnshaedir and Snjooldufjalgardur.
I think Icelandic place names were chosen mainly for their amusement value over the long winter.

I left Guatemala 2 days before the eruption. Damn. I've always wanted to see one. However, I did see the most beautiful (and spacious?) McDonald's in the world in Antigua. Didn't eat there, though.

That is a superb McDonald's. The great thing about McDo in third word countries is that they have good and clean toilets. And being a gringo of a certain age I am never refused entry.
