When we were in La Palma in October there was rumbling from the volcano and multiple earth tremors which prompted one British tabloid (whose reporter filed from a pub in London) that there was panic on the streets. Panic? What panic? If our Airbnb host hadn't told us we would never have known.
Now Mount Agung on Bali is spewing ash 3000 metres into the sky and forcing the closure of the airport. According to newspaper reports the volcano is about to spew magma and volcanic mud and 100,000 people are being evacuated from surrounding areas. Agung, you've got it wrong. The Fazes don't arrive until January 31st.

Memo to self. Check with the Faz's before booking holidays and go the opposite direction. Hopefully by the end of Jan it will all be over and you can have a quiet holiday.

Baz, have you already forgotten about Sicily and the Etna rumbling then as well? (but I don't really think you are volcano disrupters, and even if you were, I love you both anyway)

You are right, Annie, I had forgotten that. We were worried that our flight out of Catania would be cancelled. As our plane was taking off we could see Etna have a fit.
So Kiwi is right: keep away from us when we go away because it makes Vulcan angry.

It's possible the causation is opposite: You have an unconscious urge to be near volcanoes and ability to predict them. Have you perhaps found a ring lately?

Just felt a cold shiver run down my back, tilted.
You were thinking of that one, yes?

A family member did a volcano trekking tour - Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking. He said the volcano is active, and their guide told them not to stand too close to the edge to avoid falling in. He said an American on a trek some months previously, got too close and fell in. Scary stuff. The family member returned home safely. He said you could feel the heat and bits and pieces were flying around.

And what about non-extinct hobbits?
