Well... I had a meeting in Bern, and the train goes through Berner Oberland... but the highlights of the trip include an evening with Happy Traveller and Sunshine.
more later... i'm being called away from the laptop...

So... I had to change trains in Thun. Thun is particular as, although it has a lake to its name, you don't really see it from town. You can see the large public transport boats moored on the widened Aare river from the train station. A bit surreal. My souvenir from Thun, though will be of a light, delicious bretzel. food of the gods! I was so glad I had the time to purchase it from the station's underground walkway before continuing my journey. I'll try and remember for next time. The shop only sells bretzels. plain "original" bretzels, seeded bretzels, bretzel sandwiches... you want it, you get it.
The train didn't stop in Interlaken. My parents travelled through Berner Oberland for a short "holiday" last week and they did stop in Interlaken. They didn't like it at all. Way too touristy and although it has lakes in its name, it isn't a lake town.
The next stop was Spiez. A town that my parents enjoyed so much, they went back to it another day. This is quite a lovely town on the lake (lake Thun) a bit idyllic. I will have to go mooch about there. My grandma ran a deli shop for her father there, as a young lady.
after that, the train quickly reached the loetschberg tunnel. the traveller spends long minutes very far under the mountain. I haven't noticed any dwarves there, but we were travelling fast.

I spent the evening with them and their respective blokes. We had a ball, as usual, and a lovely meal. I wish my meeting had finished earlier so I could have spent more time with them. Happy had very kindly offered I stay at hers for the night.
a nice little mini-break from the routine. I wish I had been able to take pics of the beautiful autumn colours. it is gorgeous at the moment.

How lovely! I am so familiar with all the places you name - although to be honest, I don't think I ever left the Spiez train station, in the dozens of times I've gone through there! Thun is a pleasant town that I liked going to as an alternative to Interlaken. There are some nice places in Interlaken but the centre is very, very touristy, as your parents noted.
It's almost exactly a year since I spent an evening with the same group (and you forgot to mention the dogs!!), and spent the night too. It was great!
