I wasn't going to bother mentioning this but I will. I recently watched MacBeth on the Estate (1997), the blasted heath, is reset in the urban waste ground abutting the Ladywood Estate in Birmingham, castles morphed into blocks of flats. Given the current drivel about the correct portrayal of nonexistent mythical beings, let me present Shakespeare`s Thane of Fife: Macduff
Amongst other delights there is a moment at the feast after the murder of Duncan when Lady M performs a Karaoke rendition of "I shall Survive". Much of it strays from the original text and retold in an dialect sometimes difficult to understand. How authentic is that! Here is the local lad (born just a few miles down the road) setting the scene for the mayhem to come.

I have a VHS copy recorded when broadcast, the BBC did once offer it for download via their defunct archive service but no more, and the BFI does have a copy.
Besides that, it seems to have departed. Shame!

I believe they showed a bit of it in an episode of "Time Team" that took place where they filmed it, due to some interesting archeology there.

Well done, I am pleased. I am also a little perplexed that I couldn't find it!
I thought it wonderful, and will be interested to know what you and others think.

Am watching Kdramas (South Korean shows) Sitting on a sofa made in Melbourne, Wearing Uggs made in Australia (of course), And pyjamas made in China, Drinking tea from a cup made in England. And my water glass is from Laos.
I think that’s pretty cultural.

Watched first part of the BBC/PBS series " Fight the Power: How Hip Hop Changed the World" and it was good. As one might guess the world in question is the world according to Chuck D (Executive Producer). Part 1: "The Foundation" deals with the politics, and social conditions of the US but mostly NYC from 1960 to the early eighties, and grim it is, as indeed it was. So far, so good, I remember a lot of that material so it is an easy way into Hip Hop culture, at least I hope it is. I am not so sure I will be following so readily by the time we get to Compton (NWA) and the sticks (De La Soul) which we surely must at some point in the remaining three hours. Anyway it is a story worth the telling, and best done while their are sufficient survivors to perform pieces to camera. BTB: Did Hip Hop change the world? Much like punk, I was never sure how much traction it had in the US mainstream.

The BBC has a collection of old Arena documentaries on iPlayer. Some I have seen, like "Chelsea Hotel", but most are new to me, like "The Most Beautiful Boy in the World" about Björn Andrésen who played Tadzio in Luchino Visconti's Death in Venice. Arena is good viewing if and when it is available.
