I picked up some frozen snails from Lidl which we are going to have as a starter tonight. Waiting for the kettle to boil for tea just now I had a look at the label on the aluminium tray and read: Produced in France using escargots from Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Turkey.
It's a long way to France from those counties. I wonder when the snails set off.

At least you know you didn't cut off their lives in their prime.

It is about 2800km between Istanbul and Paris. Snails can average around 1 metre per hour. If movement was continuous, so no rest periods, that works out at more or less 320 years.
I bet they were a bit tough to eat.
