I'm off to Wales after school on Friday and was wondering if anyone had any tips or info to share. We'll be staying near Newport which I see is close to Cardiff and Wye Valley Area. We'll have our car so happy to drive to places within an hour or so.

Just to ensure you know what people might be talking about; Friday will mark 50 years since Wales' greatest post-war tragedy the day a slag heap fell upon Averfan and killed a school full of pupils and teachers.

the most incredible used book shop is near Wye. Also, in Newent, Glous. ( on the way and just off the motorway ) is the National Birds of Prey Center - which is fascinating ( and run by my friend Jemima Parry-Jones ) Not Wales but.............
But in Wales, near Abergavenny is that amazing zillion-star restaurant - the name of which escapes me after all these years... oh well. sorry.

Wow slowcoach, I had no idea. Thanks for letting me know.
Love the song, annie!
Thanks Baz - will definitely go there. Mr lumi and I are both National Trust members - doing our part to ensure such places remain for generations to enjoy as we will. The coaster clifftop walk we did In Scotland many years ago was one the the most enjoyable walks I've done and I can't wait to do another!

Is it The Walnut Tree Inn, voy? I just did a quick Google search and that came in first with Michelin stars...

something to think about if you're planning a walk: weather warningI understand this is for now and you're not going until next week, but the storms might have damaged areas or it might be seriously wet. Wales isn't that green by chance.

Lumi - yes that's it! it's near where I used to stay with friends - at Llanover House... which if by any chance you hit their Garden Open , GO! it's spectacular - and in front of the house is a real "haha".. the only one I"ve ever seen!
