First things first: does someone know one can avoid having one's passport stamped upon arrival? I vaguely remember that customs would also stamp a piece of paper instead.
I found a cheap flight for the christmas vacation to Tel Aviv, so now I'm contemplating (also depending if Mr. Nin needs a visa or not). What about a week? How will the weather be like? Any sights nearby?

They stamp a piece of paper that you have to carry in your passport. I know that form my colleagues that worked last summer in Tel Aviv.

these days it's a computer printed piece of paper which is carried in the passport as wiki says... within the country this proves one is not a resident so one does not have to pay VAT for hotels... if your trip comes through, nin, be in touch

That is good to know! At the moment the choice is between staying home, going to an island in the North Sea again, the Alps and now Tel Aviv has come up.

aha! i didn't answer half of your questions: weather - it can rain and it can get down to a high of 10... though with global warming anything can happen but typically it's pretty nice compared to european weather...
are their sights? the whole country is one! it is also tiny and accessible by public transportation... jaffa, which is part of tel aviv is where jonah boarded for his whale of a trip and is where andromeda was chained and rescued by perseus... but hey, that's modern history compared to other places... amazingly we will be home then and can show you around...

The advantages of a tiny country! When I checked the distances I saw that Tel Aviv is really close to where you live and that indeed just about everything is closeby. Temperatures will not be so much of an issue but it would be nice if we could catch a bit of sunshine compared to the overcast and grey days we have here in winter.

we used to be able to drive from our house to central tel aviv in about 22 minutes but now the traffic is worse probably figure on half an hour outside of rush hour...
