I had need to book a hotel in London and I looked at one which was reasonably priced. It was with a small local chain. So glad I checked their terms and conditions, where they stated that they might move people from one of their hotels to another one in the chain (at no extra cost!!) without asking the customer first.
I went with the known functional but not wonderful international chain.
If I choose a specific hotel, I don't want a room in another a mile away.

hotels tend to overbook just like airlines... it is standard practice for quality hotels to 'walk' the extra client to another hotel at the same price, which is what the little chain is saying in its terms - but they'll do it at another branch of their chain...

It can be a real pain if you have chosen that hotel for a specific reason. The only time I was moved was when I was going to a wedding reception in hotel B across the road and to expensive for my budget. Booked A and was moved to another one a taxi ride away at the last minute. Grizzled so much that they agreed to pay for the taxi

I wouldn't like that at all Annie. When I book accommodation, one of the criteria is location. As I usually book through booking.com, I'm please to say I've not had that happen to me.

We are flying to Sicily in January. I have booked us a hotel a stroll away from Gatwick's north terminal. I have booked it solely because of its location (and positive reviews) and I certainly don't want to be moved to somewhere a couple of kilometres away where we would have to be bussed to the airport.

oh, you'll probably hear me without me needing to post on here if they dare and try to move me.

I'd find that annoying too ... if it was next door, i might be okay with it, else i'd probably be quite annoyed ...
