I have a two day visit to the Falls planned - and also to the Botanical gardens AA. Still waiting for a few more details to come but plans slowly falling into place.

when you write malba... somehow it reminds me of the Argentinian cartoon, which name has escaped me... quite political? Mafalda!

Well that appears to have been a waste of effort. The small group tour has been cancelled due to lack of interest and neither of the other ones touted are running despite one being a guaranteed departure. As I haven't been brilliant health wise lately I wanted something where there was a tour guide/leader if I thought I needed some help so don't want a private tour being passed around like a parcel.
Nothing else has come up on an internet search so will have to rethink.
Stuff it.... might just stay home instead.

Just found a trip that goes and already has sufficient numbers so have booked - even if it is a bit of a Nana type tour or as we used to call them "blue rinse" . My original flights can still stand but have to decide whether to go directly to Rio to join the others or spend a few more days in BA (depends a bit on getting flights) but also have to decide which area is better for a bit of down time before joining the rest as the tour spends quite a few tourist style days in each.
Anyone have any recommendations? Criteria is basically relatively safe, preferably somewhere I can sit and look at a view during the heat of the day or wander around solo to places that interest me (ie nice museums and good food) that won't be on the basic tourist itinerary.

can you run a vague itinerary for this one so we can help better?

for the down time days, I have to say I'd recommend BA - simply for the safety angle - sitting in Recoleta , or take a ferry for the day to Uruguay,or .. see if you can get one ticket to a polo match at Palermo... lots of nice options

another advantage of BA is that you already have done some research about it.

Thanks ladies. BA sounds more like me. Just need to check out the flight options. This one only has a few stops for longer days. BA, Rio, Cuzco Puno and Lima but hits the 3 items on my bucket list on the way. The Falls, Lake Titicaca and Manchu Picchu.

and - don't forget, the lovely Itsa lives in BA... and is a serious icecreaam and chocolate freak! Itsa, Farsi, Gringa, Katje, to lose a continent seems like carelessness.

^ Plans all made - suitcase out on the spare bed, clothes chucked roughly in the direction of the case. Kindle loaded with reading material for the 12 hour flight (lovely... long while since I've done such a short long haul flight) vaccinations completed and a couple of day trips planned including one to the Malba. Three weeks to go. Can't wait as it has been a bit of a roller coaster year and I'm not talking about the rock and roll from the earthquake last week.

Enjoy your trip and, er, pack light. Light... er umm, I'm not known for taking more than the essentials, however that essential list has grown a bit over the years with chargers for the kindle and camera, but the plus side is that I no longer have to carry a suitcase full of books.
