I will soon take part in a local event and would like to have with me food that will hold at room temperature that isn't too unhealthy.
I already have thought of apples and carrots and oatcakes and nuts.
Do you have any suggestions for me?
Or shall I just spend my money at food stalls?

Dried apricots, tinned tuna (you can get flavoured ones), vegemite sandwiches!Even these yoghurts I bought last week say they last at room temperature for up to 4 hours. You could also just freeze a juice box (or buy a proper freezer brick) to keep food cold inside an insulated bag. That's what I use everyday for taking my lunch to school. Everything stays surprisingly cold.

my friends are telling me it'll be safe to bring my usual salad. I'll have some ice to keep it cool.

Can't remember for the life of me where I was headed, but it clearly was before the life-changing referendum...

Tzarine, I wouldn't leave rice at room temperature for that long. I'm pretty sure that cooked rice starts to develop bacteria very quickly compared to other foods when left unrefrigerated.
Annie, no idea where you were headed but room temperature would be so different depending on what part of the world you were in. I see that I mentioned a yoghurt that could be kept for 4 hours at room temperature. I have no recollection of that but certainly wouldn't trust a label saying that these days!

yeah, like red wine served at room temperature... people don't understand that originally it was room temperature of a british castle's dungeon... about 16C, so people tend to serve red wine much too warm...
