Mange-tout peas and courgettes need to be harvested every day now. And today I pulled up the first beetroots. They are long rather than round, seed sent by Polish Maria.

I'm not much of a tomato farmer. The plants are tall and full, tomatoes a plenty but not enough sun so may not do too well. I have net around them but the "woman who works for me pulled it down and a deer got one of my plants. Lots of herbs and still tree collards. That plant is 3 or 4 yrs old.

I was going to try to pick peas today, but it's raining and rainning and raining. I"m going away to work tomorrow, until Friday, so I hope no peas end up going to waste!

I ate the first 2 strawberries from my organic garden today and they were delicious! I have had so many strawberries in the month before but they have all been eaten by birds and/or slugs. I now have a net covering them and there are far more berries almost ready to pick so fingers crossed for more!!

I was down at our allotment today and chatting to one of the other allotmenteers (there are 5 of us). He congratulated us on what we had achieved in two and a half months. I said it was a shame that we weren't going to get blackcurrants this year. Ten minutes later he came and gave me a box of them. They are good people here.

So after the Canada day parade I ended up with two clematis shoots- each maybe an inch high? I re-potted them and have been leaving them on the deck to enjoy the sun- alongside the chili plant that's being polinated, and the two kalanchoes.
Last night an animal got to them and one shoot has actually gone missing! One was uprooted but I hope will survive.
Bastard raccoons.

I shake my fist at your raccoons, pdub!
I've seen a jack rabbit in the community garden where my plot is, but it was nibbling on someone else's lettuce, so I thought he was cute. But he'd better not touch any of MY plants!
Picked the first green beans today. Will eat them tomorrow.

I still can't believe a raccoon stole my clematis.
Miniwheel said it could have been a squizza, but I said no, we like squizzas.
Edit- just seen the chipmunk loitering with intent, that's set up house at the end of the garden. But as that's ridiculously cute, it gets a let too.

I did some wild camping in the Rockies and I watched a chipmunk come to investigate the offerings. It decided it wanted wine and knocked over the glass and broke it.

Picked and ate a few more strawberries today. SO much more flavour than the tasteless ones I've been buying in the supermarket.

So chipmunks are known for mindless vandalism. Hollywood has a LOT to answer for... I think the chipmunk is the villain. I did some wild camping in the Rockies and I watched a chipmunk come to investigate the offerings. It decided it wanted wine and knocked over the glass and broke it.

I gathered another couple of beetroots today so Mrs Faz can make curried beetroot. Tomorrow will be the first broad beans. And the purple beans are coming on nicely.

I'm reliably informed they were planted in the middle of May as small plants.

I took a hose on a reel (the previous owners of our house left it) to our allotment but it wasn't quite long enough to reach our patch. Our neighbour who shares the allotment added a bit more hose to it. Yesterday evening I gave everything a good soaking. I like standing about holding a hose: you know you are doing good and it requires minimal effort. Everybody who passed by on the road gave a cheery wave. A lad came rushing over and dared me to spray him. Silly boy.

We ahd a really hot couple of days and I (stupidly) didn't make the effort to water my garden. The kale is still amazing but the broccoli took a hit. I've left 2 heads of broccoli to flower as I read that the flowers are nice to eat in a salad - has anyone actually tried them?

I've got some space to plant something else now but trying to decide what. I don't want anything too tall or wide as I grow in raised planter beds and will be away in 2 weeks for about 2 weeks (but mr lumi will do watering if I leave him instructions). Am thinking perhaps some salad greens if I plant the seeds directly in the planter beds.

Now that the tree falling is done, I need to start thinking about what to plant there. The crew cleaned up fairly well, but there is still a lot of work to do, then the planning. I am thinking a few more specimen bushes or trees (none that will be too big, maybe flowering plums), masses of daffodils, heathers, and a few helibores.
