I heard on the news this morning that today is known as "Black Eye Friday" in the UK. I thought you would be be a good source of information on what is up with this. I had never heard of it before.

I heard on the radio tonight that tonight is the 2nd biggest night for the A&E departments in the UK (New Years is worse) so I am assuming that it is related to the Black Eye Friday name you mention.

Thanks good people. I heard much of the same. I would like to hear for my own selfish sick sense of humor Geeky's take on the whole affair.

Geeky is unavailable for comment due to the fact he's down at the Pub. He may not be available for a few days due to eyes swollen shut.

He was actually drinking Aldi's value scrumpy at home on his own when he got into the fight. True about the shiners though.

LOL you guys!!!! Although, since we haven't heard from him, I'm afraid y'all may be right. If we don't here something soon I will truly be worried.
What a barbaric tradition I must say. I wonder if women get involved as well?

my take is that it isn't a barbaric tradition - rather a realistic assessment of what goes on the friday evening before christmas...

Well, many other cities and towns have large Christmas parties etc. and of course New Year's Eve is traditionally a night for people to "tie one on" but, to have an official name given to one particular night and reported on a worldwide radio network certainly speaks volumes don't you think? Perhaps barbaric is too harsh a word but, I'll stick to it. Just by virtue of having a moniker attached to it seems to almost promote it, as though there is an expectation or free license to have a brawl.

What a barbaric tradition I must say. I wonder if women get involved as well? It is probably often about women.

Sorry? You rang?
You lot really are so funny!
I don't even have to reply and you have a flower go at me!
Only a few know me.
The News is Wrong. And please tell the Yanks/Seppos that we still don't 'Do' Black Friday', the day after Thanksgiving. It's Retail bollocks and Shite.
Yesterday has always been known as Builder's Friday.
I really can't be bothered to explain it to you but if any one of you asks me to explain it then I will.
Until then; Goodnight.

Well, you are certainly in a black mood. Pun intended. I started the OP to try and gain some insightful wisdom from you. I can believe that the news is wrong, it almost always is.

Of course it's wrong - but slightly right at the same time...
I didn't really appreciate "What a barbaric tradition I must say. I wonder if women get involved as well?" to be honest. Like Diss the English?
It's always been known as Builders Friday or Black Friday, ok?
Now that the Seppo Kunts have managed to get the day after Thanksgiving, known as Black Friday for the sales over on this sacred Isle, then they had to invent a new expression for the last Friday before Christmas; hence Black Eyed Friday.
It was always Builder's Friday as all the Builders/Roofers etc used to knock off at midday the Friday before Christmas until the New Year. They would then hit the pubs and get hammered and all the pent up aggression over the year would boil over from 8pm onwards - like who nicked whose contracts/who undercut each other/who nicked other's labourers at the last minute by offering them a quid more at the last minute.
So fights kicked off.
Also, the most Christmas Parties occur on the last Friday before Christmas and you have those annoying Kunts who are Part Time Drinkers and have a swing after a couple of shandys.
So? I blame the Yanks for Black Friday being moved and the Black Eye Friday replacing it.
Humbug!
