lumi i saw your post. Have you found a way for your transcripts? I hope so! I haven't found the transcript I need but I have seen online that I can buy a copy from the university for $25 which is much cheaper than I'd anticipated. It is just a bit of extra work organising for someone else to receive it for me and get the certification done and submit it etc. So many little things can actually be quite difficult when you live in a foreign country. And this is definitely one of them. But if my plan does work out, I will have 12 months of full teacher status in Australia (you need to meet certain requirements and pay every year to maintain it), during which I intend to use it to apply for the UK teacher registration which lasts a lifetime without any requirements whatsoever. So if that all works out, it will be one less stress when I next need to look for a job.

Microsoft has "improved" Outlook. In computerspeak "improving" something means making it more difficult. So now it takes 2 clicks when before it took 1 click. Oh, there are numerous other improvements. Oh, frabjous joy.

There a spider (dayddy long legs) living in the corner of my bedroom ceiling. I was a bit scared to reach up high and get it so waited 2 weeks until Mr Lumi would be home. But the spidder disappeared.
Fast forward a week later and tonight I saw a small gecko in my bedroom. It was too quick for me to catch so remains in my room.
Best case scenario is that the gecko ate the spider. But given that this looks to be a baby gecko and the spider was big, it doesn't seem likely. Makes me get the heevie-jeevies.

Couriers
At
13:01 "Your package is more than 50 stops away" 13:11 "Your package could not be delivered due to "Not In"
*******
Such is not possible. That would be more than one stop every 12 seconds.
They lie, I was in, they never arrived.
There are many variations but all arise because we are a vey long way from anywhere.
On one occasion they phoned to ask us if we could meet them half way.
"No" It is a simple premise, you deliver to us, at the address on the package.

How very annoying, slowcoach. It happens here too only this is a sneak city-state so there should be no excuse of being to far away.
I ordered my son his first watch and it arrived today. The delivery person left it on top of my gate pillar which was soaked because it was raining. He put it there, rang my doorbell and got immediately back in the van and drove away. Thankfully I was home to collect it right away but I always wonder what happens if a delivered item is ruined because the delivery person leaves it out in the rain.

I suspect that the rivers are on a hiding to nothing. Too many stops, not enough time allowed
I also suspect that it is cheaper for the courier compnay to return stuff for us rather than attempt to deliver it. For some reason ot one package from Amazon Spain has ever made it to our door. This is specific to Amazon.

I managed to catch the tiny gecko today. Well, I assume it was the same one - I saw a tiny one in the living room when I got home and did a catch and release on it. I haven't seen a tiny gecko here before so assume the bedroom one simply relocated downstairs at some point. Now I just need to catch the fat one that appears to be living in my kitchen.... It is so common to have them in Singapore because everything is so open (no proper seal around doors so they can wander on in underneath a closed door, no screens on windows etc) but I find it unhygenic so want them out (but don't wish to harm them so I have to be patient and quick and try to calorie them under a container and then remove).

Lumi - I think they are way less unhygenic than the flies (and spiders ) they eat !

Lumi - I think they are way less unhygenic than the flies (and spiders ) they eat ! They poo all over the place! So I think that geckos are worse. We don't have flies (we installed screens on windows) so that isn't an issue for us.

Lumi I had a look around and found this: 1. Place some eggshells. This is a very effective and inexpensive way to scare away geckos: they see eggshells and they think “predator.” Leave two eggshell halves around your home, such as at outdoor entryways, or in the kitchen. Do not crush the eggshells, leave them in two halves. 2. Place onions and garlic. Garlic and onions have a strong odour that attacks the lizard's senses and is a good approach to get rid of them without harming them. As a result, lizards are less likely to return to the same location. To keep lizards away, place a few onion slices or raw garlic cloves throughout your home. I feel as you do, Lumi, I wouldn’t want to kill them either, I’d just want them out. I would have no compunction killing mosquitoes and some spiders.

Thanks, Netsie. I had read about the egg shell theory but not the onions/garlic. I womder if leaving raw onion slices and garlic out would attract other bug or cockroaches. Perhaps when we are away for a couple of days I can try that - I don't fancy smelling them all day myself!

Turns out I didn't catch the bedroom gecko after all... Unless that same gecko came back into my house, went up the stairs, into my bedroom and then into my ensuite. I managed to catch the little fella and take him back outside. But having had 2 tiny geckos in the house in such a short time makes me now theorise that a gecko laid eggs somewhere in my house and the babies are making home. I will have to peg my nose and start throwing the onion slices about!

We lived for 20 years in France. During that time we used a French financial advisor to invest our money to be useful in old age. We have decided old age has come so we wish to close these insurance-linked contracts and move the money to the UK.But all these insurance companies insist we have to go through our financial advisor to do this. Problem: he has died. He was a one-man band so his office (him) has simply stopped. Nobody even informed us he was dead. It took great detective work by Mra Faz. And what has happened to all the files in his office? Not just ours, his other clients?

Eek, Baz. Hope there is a solution.. and a solution which doesn’t require the usual French legal contortions.

How frustrating, Baz. It might be easiest to hire another financial advisor to retrieve the money for you. They surely would know what to do or at least have the connections to find out.
