REally chilly up here at work - was -16C this morning - but it's sunny and bright, and that means it just doesn't feel too bad. And it's sunny when I leave for work before 6:30, and sunny when I walk back to camp after 7! In fact, the sun isn't going down until long after 8:00 now!

It snowed - a lot! - in Saskatoon today. I'm at work though, where it stayed sunny and got above freezing.

The swallows are yesterday returned and still it's January. Seems odd but welcome. Winter has been mild here but I guess it be a colder one whence they come.
The storks have been one their nest since the 10th.

Winter has been way too mild here too (not that i mind!!) We only had about 10 days of minus temperatures and snow here.

until now, I think the UK has only experienced a couple days of freezing temperatures this 'winter'. plenty of rain and storms and gales, though. but most days, the coldest is about 7C. often around 10C. it's just plain wrong.

It's been very mild here, too, almost all winter. It melted a few days last week! And I think the coldest spell we've had was about 2 days of -25C. I can't remember a year where it hasn't hit -35C for at least a few days. That could still happen, but it's less likely after the end of January.
... although there was the year we went to Thailand, got back around the 10th of March, and found it was still -30C and it stayed that way for another week or 2!!

We've had temperature ups and downs, but luckily the cold days have been few and it's been mostly very mild. It snowed a bit yesterday but is not cold. (as in, just -7C today so far, and maybe will go up to 0).

Glorious glorious day! Sunny and warm - spent about 2 hours at the zoo. The red panda was full of beans - climbing everywhere, diving into the snow, and generally being a goof. Saw nice birds, fat goats and ponies, and a sleepy grizzly bear. It was so nice to be comfortable outside!

For the swallows are back again. They returned on the 16th and are feeding and soon to be breeding.

For the swallows are back again. They returned on the 16th and are feeding and soon to be breeding. We don't have swallows except for the ones in your throat. And spring when it comes is always shy, reticent and retiring. In fact, spring is hardly seen at all, preferring to hide behind her cousin's skirts. But she does make appearances around Melbourne Cup.

In Siracusa, Sicily, winter seems to alternate with spring. We had breakfast on our little terrace this morning and next weekend it is forecast to reach 23 censored degrees. But the next day plunge to 13.
