How is this for odd?! I guess it might work but I am not going to try it. I found it in a country womens cookbook I got from Charters Towers (Inland from here where we camp sometime). Happyt knows it. MrAkers' pumpkin and passionfruit soup!

Here is the recipe.
1 tablespoon butter 1 finely chopped onion 250g pumpkin S & P pulp of 3 or 4 passionfruit natural yougurt or sour cream to serve
You all know how to cook so I won't bother with the method.
What do you think? Much stranger than curried banana soup which I really liked.
I even gave my boss a taste of that one!

I think it sounds quite reasonable.. as passionfruit is really quite tart and not a "sweet" fruit.. it might zing up the boring ole pumpkin.. ( wish we could get passionfruits here.. hummm.. maybe I could grow one?)

I shan't be trying that one. Passion fruits only make an appearance here during the "exotic fruit season" - which otherwise is known as Christmas. Supermarkets have displays of fruits from the tropics at amazingly inflated prices. I am not going to buy 4 passion fruits at a euro each to make soup.

I'd bring you some but customs would not be impressed I think.

Tuck them in your bra (if there is room).

Lots of room since I lost some weight. How many do you want?

The recipe makes sense, but it seems too plain. Charlie taught me about using passionfruit juice instead of orange juice when marinating stuff like chicken. And really, I don't see how you'd get passionfruit pulp, since it's so hard to separate from the seeds. The best you'd do would be thick juice.
Anyway, I'd think if someone wanted to try the recipe, orange juice with maybe a little lime juice could be substituted for the passionfruit. I'd definitely add some other seasonings, too.
