yesterday, part of my meal... its highlight, was some "viande sechee" - air-dried beef that I brought with me on the way back from my parents. It is so so so good!

I skewered some shrimp with rosemary from my windowsill plant and BBQed them. Sauteed asparagus, mushrooms, onion, yellow pepper, & garlic , doused with white wine, and stirred it all into pasta. Also corn on the cob and garlic bread and a romaine salad.

A friend in the meat trade in Britain "gifted" (ahem) us a box of goodies - leg of lamb, gold medal pork pies, and sirloin steaks. It is a steak I am having tonight. There is quince ice cream in a small pot in the freezer which I'll finish as this season's quinces are about to appear. A smoked mackerel to start with and some home made cucumber pickle. That seems a good Sunday dinner.

I threw a flammekueche that I bought at Dia in the oven. It was edible but not good. I will remember to buy the next one from Franprix again.
If you don't know what a flammekueche is, it is a sort of Alsatian pizza with a very thin crust and covered with onions, crème fraîche and bacon bits. When it is good, it is VERY good.

...........it is a sort of Alsatian pizza.............. I know there are some strange pizzas around but I've never had one made with dog meat. Is it popular with the Chinese community?

We're having salade nicoise; then breaded fish fillets and a 3 O salad (orange, onion and olives dusted with paprika plus a dribble of olive oil). Figs and yet more figs and maybe some grapes and plums. We have a lot of fruit in the garden.

Mrs Faz, the soup expert, made the mushroom soup and it was excellent. We then had some Debrecen sausages froim the supermarket. I was curious as the pack said it was a Bavarian speciality, though Debrecen is a town in Hungary. They were paprika flavoured and OK. Curly chips and green salad. And the usual plums, grapes and figs from the garden.

Glad to hear you're not in hospital, Baz Faz.
I just made cioppino (sp?) - red wine and marinara based seafood stew. I used steelhead trout and shrimp, and a Malbec.
And to make it a bit healthier I also put asparagus and broccoli into it. It only calls for onion but I've found that you can put some veggies in and it doesn't detract from the overall flavours.

Tonight we are invited to have dinner by a woman who herself acknowledges she is a terrible cook. She is. She hates cooking. Just to make our hearts sink she has said that we have already had the dishes she is going to cook.

It was much better than we feared. We had a plate of bits of smoked salmon, prawns and salad; turkey breast with local prunes; good cheeses; some fruit on a bit of pastry with creme fraiche. Another man and I made certain the wine glasses didn't stay empty for long. A good evening.
