Suppositories are very common here in Portugal, apparently the meds enter your bloodstream faster and it avoids the risk of tummy upset. If I need a strong anti inflamatory for instance i would much rather get ip up the chuff.

Actually, I can think of one occasion where suppositories are the only thing you would want. After a hemorrhoid operation, they give you some sort of oily glycerin suppositories so that you don't scream when you have to shit. Or at least you scream a bit less.
It wouldn't do you much good to swallow them.
