Great photos and story lines and your dune ones are stunning. There was a little on the news about flooding in an area of Nambia however by now you should be on your unlisted flight and heading home.

When it happens in the North as it has, they have to open the sluices on the Gove and Ruacana Dams and suddenly Southern Africa's other great waterfall is resurrected for a time. From Wikipedia: ETA: That was 2011, 2017 may be bigger, I think we need to dispatch someone with a camera immediately. About two days drive from Lusaka, amongst other places. Contact the Hydro-station for state of play.

More than 2 days Slow, unfortunately. But not a lot more if I was by myself. There is a very bad section of road in the south of Zambia joining Livingstone and out to the west to a place called Katima Mulilo where that new bridge is. It's a bit of a killer because of the broken and pot holed tarmac. The alternative is to cross first into Botswana and then Namibia. I'd get there for an early lunch on the third day though. A day's drive from Windhoek in a rental would be better.

Thanks Nins.
Voy, "Do it" ain't so easy. I wonder if I sometimes make it look so but if it does appear so, it's only because of all the preparation beforehand. I don't have the time anyway to go out there for now as I'd need a week to be comfortable, but if I ever get back to Namibia I'll add it to the list. Don't hold your breathe though.

I think you should put together a potters tour and lead it.

Do you know the trouble I have just organising myself? It's hard work! I even disagree with myself from time to time. If something was organised by someone I'd certainly offer my services and advice but I'd prefer to be handed something already sorted rather than trying from day one to get everyone in agreement, costs, route, accommodation, transport etc etc. That's how it was when I was doing the leading. I'd be handed a group list, an itinerary, some trip notes and that was about it. Off into the wild blue yonder.

It was pretty big in 2003, but unfortunately my camera was a Spotmatic which used strange strips of celluloid which are oddly download resistant. Ho Hum!
Perhaps one day the Scan Faerie will visit me.
Ruacana in the wet season has some challenges. Ruacana had some challenges full stop, but not as many as before Independence, I reckon.
Time to leave this thread to its original purpose.
Someone asked about the swimming pools, yet again, a not my thread, and anyway they were rather rare back then.
ETA:
I somehow doubt that the Falls have been spoiled by mass tourism. Perhaps they will (or have) put up a road sign at the turn off to the Falls which would clearly be an intrusion into the purity of the experience too far.

I want you to see the waterfall!!
And I understand your politeness while climbing the dune. When my friend and I climbed Uluru (before the locals asked tourists to please stop) we simply had to pause to take photos because the view was so good. It had nothing to do with needing to stop and get our breath, of course.

Photobucket, the hosting website for the photos, has enforced now its rule about no third party linking, a rule buried in their T and C's that I and nearly everyone else never read - unless you pay hundreds of dollars per year. As I'm not going to pay it, all those that are linked to them have now disappeared. All of them. In every report/thread I've ever done.
