we use mangold in hebrew as well... so if it's a vegetable like spinach with floppy green leaves that fan out on either side of a central white stalk it's swiss chard in english...

yeah swiss chard, looked it up later on. didn't have time for lunch today, but for dinner i had fish with vegetables and french fries.

I just messed up my diet with a nice lunch with friend/client at a local restaurant. Ate "Pataniscas de bacalhau com feijão branco" - could not resist it as I know the restaurant does it soooo well. Patties made from salt cod with coriander in a light fuffy batter, deep fried and served with a stew of white beans. 2 bottle of wine as well...

ooo - yummers it was -- torta pastor con queso.. which was great enough, the pork being chunked and in a nice sauce, but they serve a soupy guacamole with it... deeevine!

I'd blow my diet for that too hedonist. Don't be hard on yourself.. just start again tomorrow like I am. Not that I need to loose weight now but I'm thinking when travelling I'm going to eat everything in sight so better get really skinny now.

late Sunday lunch today with my folks coming over. Starters will be a mix or roast bone marrow with pasley salad, duck liver paté and smoked salmon all served on toast. Then duck rice for main course. For desert we have some mango sorbet in the freezer I made a few weeks ago and will have it wth ginger bisquits that my daughter just baked.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm surely there would be something wrong with you if you didn't mess up your diet for that?? I had a sasage roll, we're too busy organising the flat for Christmas and putting decs up, will be having a good dinner once its all done though

I just had breakfast......for .... errrr....lunch.
Sausage and bacon, with two lovely Edinburgh rolls on the side. but eaten 3 hours after it was cooked. I just got talking to a good friend on Skype and the time flew by..... Well you know how it is,right?

The bone marrow today was soooo good. Have any of you tried this? Veal shin bone (roast standing up in the oven for 20 mintes at 180ºC) and then the nearly melted marrrow is spread on toast, sprinkled with sea salt then topped with a salad made from parsley, capers, lemon juice and finely minced onion. Our butcher gives us the bone for free but they have no idea what they are missing.

For some odd reason we had loads of blue cheese over Christmas and I ignored it ("saved it"??) an now am binging. Had stilton and tomato toasties for lunch and a bit more on bread later.

Big fat Sunday lunch planned for tomorrow for the farewell party for one of my sons who is leaving on Tuesday after the Xmas break. He has invited his best mates over and us a a few of ours and I am picking up a raw suckling pig in the morning. Will make a Chinese meal starting with a scallop congee and then roast pig flavoured with star anise, ginger and garlic.

hedonist, did the suckling pig work out well? I have a friend that might sell me one.
Any congee is a good thing! I had some lovely local scallops for happyt. They seemed to enjoy them.

I have a great recipe if you get one and some tips on cooking learned after lots of trial and error.

voy - actually i just didn't know what to call it... so i looked up stuff in a dictionary, and usually nonsense comes out. what i mainly mean is putting pasta and other stuff into a dish and baking it in the oven.
