still wanted to report from our trip, which was mainly by train, with some boat and bus travel.
our first train from home started late - they said there were problems at getting the train ready, and they announced the same thing about several other trains. i had booked such an early train, though, that we still reached the town where we took the ferry very early, had time for a nice dinner and had to wait for quite a while before we could board our boat (we could have boarded a bit earlier if they had announced boarding in a way we can understand, though, so that made for some stress when i realized boarding had started a while ago).
a few of the swedish trains were late, too, but usually just by ten or twenty minutes and we got all our connections. only one train was held up due to some technical problems, we sat in the train in one station for over an our. as my dad's cousin was going to pick us up and she used the time for shopping, no problem for us, but a few others in the train were annoyed as they missed their connections ...
as for our overnight journeys - the one in the ferry was the most comfortable, just a bit short (because of boarding so late - and because i was unsure when we have to be ready to get off the boat, we could have stayed in our cabin almost an hour longer had i known we can't get off the boat until 7 am). night trains of course are always a bit noisy and i wake up a lot but in sweden they have these chains as safety rains, which is good, as we had the top bunks in one journey, so a. did not fall out of bed, and she seemed to sleep quite well ... still fun ... the least comfortable night was the bus. this was to be expected, still it feels like night busses were more comfortable when i used them often in my early twenties ... and since there was a ferry ride during that journey we had to leave the bus for an hour shortly after midnight, just after a. had finally fallen asleep ...
but well, looking at all of this and comparing it with some stories i recently heard from friends or colleagues who had problems with their flights, our journeys mainly went quite smoothly ...
