I think it is a passion fruit, known as maracuyá there.

Thanks for the wonderful photos and comments. My planned trip to Colombia was thwarted by a very inconvenient medical issue from another trip so it is still on my list. Seeing your pictures just makes it more desirable!

Not fair. I've just had breakfast and I'm now craving fresh peas and soups. The Andes photos are great. Also agree re groups. Can have lots of upside but also down. Thanks again

Thanks, Mark!
We really enjoyed Colombia last year and would go back in a heartbeat. We had 2 weeks and flew between major areas, with a driver to meet us at the airport and take us between closer sites. Made it very easy.
The people were very friendly, the weather was perfect (warm but not hot in December), the food was mostly very good, there was a great variety of landscapes, and the birding was remarkable. Baz, if you and Mrs_Faz do head there, I'll give you a recommendation for a birding place. It's small and no one speaks English, but they do arrange for an English speaking guide. After he arrived he stayed on site so was there to help with translating. He was a great guy, also a wildlife artist. The food - there was no selection, they just made what they made, but it was hearty and tasty. And huge portions - we could never finish what they made for the 2 of us, and we have very healthy appetites.
In terms of the birds - there was a hummingbird garden, but they also had feeders out that brought in tanagers. Some of them were the most beautiful birds I've ever seen. Then of course there were guided walks where we'd see even more species - I think that in 3 days we saw >90 species!! I loved lying in my hammock on our little cabin's porch, watching the feeders.

Mark, do you know the name of the largish fruit on the plant that looks like an oval watermelon?
And the other large fruit five images above the cat one. I thought at first it was jack fruit or breadfruit. but a closeup reveals it isn't.
