I think the dentist practice tweet along the lines (lions) it was just a lion....may condemn them for ever, or at least until a patients filling falls out.

In general I am against dumb animals getting stuffed but I could make an exception in his case.

the thing i don't understand is shooting an animal for fun. even if he did think it was legal to shoot that lion and had been lied to about where it is from - why would you kill something for fun? for food, for protecting yourself or others (or i suppose your plants, if it is plant lice you kill), to keep an animal population under control is one thing - but what exactly is fun in killing?

Apparently, protests have shut his practice down.

He's probably feeling under par now though.

This is so incredibly sad. How disappointing that people can be so intentionally cruel. I don't understand it.
WHY???

and the arse is a recidivist Apparently. Zimbabwe and the US have a solid extradition treaty. The 50K he spent to hunt and kill an innocent animal, he could have donated to some poor village in the country and improve the lives of many. I HOPE he is extradited and prosecuted.

I don't think the pleqsure is in the killing as such, it's in achieving something difficult (or at least expensive).

What rikita said. People are the worst and most cruel animals on this planet!

Each time I read about this words fail me. Why would a person do that?

I imagine he might be wondering the same thing at this point. His practice is shot and he's one of the most detested men on earth. I hope he's having his moment of reflection though that might be asking too much.

I hate that he's from my state... giving us a bad name. Makes me sick - someone who would lure a beautiful animal out of a reserve to kill it for fun. I do love the memorial the gentle folk of Minnesota have left at his storefront.

A couple of things makes this rather a First World story.
Checking through a not very representative sample of Zimbabwe websites I don't seem to be able to find a reference to the well known lion Cecil, prior to his death. That includes the Hwange National Park website, no prior reference to Cecil (the lion that is).
That brings me to the name, Cecil. Perhaps an unlikely name for an Zimbabwean icon; a bit like an Irish icon being called Cromwell.

Well, we could argue that 'Cecil' the Lion's death got more of an uproar than some recent human deaths. We could argue about other aspects of this situation.
It remains that killing an endangered animal for pleasure makes no sense.

It remains that killing an endangered animal for pleasure makes no sense. I don't know how I feel about humanity these days. Well, I do, mostly, I am hugely disappointed. (war, murder, greed and the like). We destroy and trample the weakest amongst us (both people and animals) and some days it's hard to f ..uking take. And Some days, I think G-D should just start over. Send a giant asteroid to this hot mess of a planet and start over. This is shitty. And then I go for a walk and meet all the nice humans and their rescue dogs and cats...and I feel slightly better. meh.

The decent far away outweigh the not so.....well at the moment anyway. I support these guys by paying a rangers wages for a year. I can't do much but I can support a lot (if that makes sense) Google IAPF Zimbabwe.
