I am currently reviewing the annual report. It is 59 pages of text and 206 pages of tables and 113 pages of figures. It is tedious and dull and I have been fooling around instead of focusing on it. I am on page 6 of the text, looking at the relevant tables and figures as I go along.
My boss is waiting for me to finish before he looks at it. (he knows I'll be super thorough, so it saves him from having to spend much time on it). He wants it by tomorrow a.m.
I MUST focus and get through it!! I will not allow myself to post here except in this thread until I am done. And I can only post progress reports here.
Ready, set, GO!

Give you self rewards at increments of 5 or 10 pages.

Ok, I skipped ahead over the arduous bits and finished all the easier stuff near the end. Discovered the final 11 pages aren't text, just lists of tables/figures.
So... I still have to do p 21 to p 40 wwhich require a fine tooth comb. i'll come in early and should be able to finish most of it by lunch. Or before, if I really focus!

I think I would prefer editing an annual report rather than tackling the board minutes I need to do for a rather messy board meeting ..... let's swap Scrubbers

ARGH. Have spent 3.5 hours on 1 page (plus 15 pages of associated tables and figures). This is painful.

Got finished to p 31. Only 3 sections left, and hopefully they won't be too painful. Have to leave it for my boss now and will get back to them tomorrow. Or late tonight.

Woohoo! Completely done at last!
The 59 pages was just one major section of the overall report - I had to review 2 other sections too (about 9 pages each plus tables, but not so many) and I just finished the last of them.
I think I'll celebrate by running 6 kms as fast as I can tonight.

congrats, scrubbie... hope your boss appreciates the effort... of course, that's the advantage of being the boss, the right to delegate unpleasant tasks to subordinates

My boss is extraordinarily lazy. The previous guy in that position always gave the report a very thorough review. This guy should do the same - but I know that he never ever ever will. He'll rush through it in a couple hours and just look for grammar and so on - I doubt he makes a single comment on the actual content/data.
That's why I do the thorough review. I took on the task myself, because no one else was going to do it.
Now, of course, my boss says "I won't go into it in detail because I know you've done that" - but we all know that he wouldn't go into it in detail regardless.

he reminds me of my thesis advisor for my masters... he corrected grammar and punctuation (sometimes incorrectly) and didn't touch content - which set me up for a lot of problems in my oral defense
