I hate that bloody word. It ought to be taken out into the desert and shot.
I'm coming across it more and more, for example - "The world’s online hub for the best bags, luggage, wallets and accessories – curated by our specialist team."
Utter, utter s h i t.
Just thought I'd share that with you.

Well quite, in my circles it is quite normal because people do curate festivals and exhibitions but a catalogue of an online shop? ?? f u c k that.

Well, it's in increasing use because it does serve a real and growing need. A ridiculously wide selection of goods and services is now available to purchase at our fingertips. There's value added, worth a higher price, in someone filtering that selection down in various ways. "Chosen" won't do as it suggests making the final decision on exactly what to buy. So what word would you use -- I guess I've just suggested "filtered," but that seems too impersonal.

Anyone who wants to use curated can search on the internet and find me a Thesaurus with alternatives. I bet you are struggling to find one that has an entry for this bloody stupid word.
And its etymology.

Well, here's definition 4 of 4 for "Curate" at dictionary.com:
to pull together, sift through, and select for presentation, as music or website content: “We curate our merchandise with a sharp eye for trending fashion,” the store manager explained.
Maybe it'll help those who hate the term to remember its etymology. Long before it was picked up by those in charge of museums, the Romans used it for those in charge of various categories of public works, including sewers.

Wasn't there a website where you can trace the history of a word or something, where you can see how many times it's been used in literature over the centuries?
Besides, I'm all for the word 'curate' as a noun and the title of 'curator', not a verb. I'm fine with it being used as the title of a person undertaking the care of souls in religious orders or as the caretaker of a collection or as someone in charge, e.g. as a position of employment as with the origins of Roman public works/sewers.
What I object to is when it is turned into a verb - 'curated'.

Your post raises a lot of questions with me, like, which word is non grata, inappropriate or curated? and the contradiction of using favourite and non grata in the same sentence and is pre-owned non grata as well and why the discussion is inappropriate, if it is or is the post simply just sarcastic or serious........
Sorry welle, you've lost me with that. I need an idiots guide.
