It is difficult to keep up with the daily flow of medical research so I am starting this thread to keep us all alert.
Today I read that eating cocoa ( = chocolate) stops memory loss.

Research at Uppsala University shows that people who drink three glasses of milk a day are twice as likely to die early as people who drink less than one glass. Also there was no reduction in broken bones for men, and for women there was actually an increased risk of fracture.

According to a study carried out at Harvard Medical School, elderly people who eat plenty of blueberries (and strawberries) are less likely to suffer from cognitive decline, compared to other people of their age who do not.
Scientists at Texas Woman's University found that blueberries help in curbing obesity. Plant polyphenols, which are abundant in blueberries, have been shown to reduce the development of fat cells (adipogenesis), while inducing the breakdown of lipids and fat (lipolysis).

Scientists at Edinburgh University have found that men under 5 ft 6 inches are 50% more likely to die of dementia than those above 5 ft 10 inches. I don't know about the people in that ignored 4 inches.

If you drilled a tunnel straight through the Earth and jumped in, it would take you exactly 42 minutes and 12 seconds to get to the other side.

Gravity would pull you down to the centre of the Earth, your speed would shoot you a little past the centre, but then you'd yo-yo back and forth until you stopped. Dead centre. No?

I read today that four cups of coffee a day (and decaf is better) lower the risk of getting diabetes. The research was done by an organisation funded by the seven largest coffee companies in Europe. Just saying...

I wonder what the results would be if the coffee companies weren't funding that research... (not really)

Researchers at Harvard say that a yogurt a day keeps diabetes at bay (milk, butter and cheese don't have the same effect).
|
|
|
Post by auntieannie on Nov 25, 2014 17:48:56 GMT 2
has to be plain live yoghurt though. doesn't it?
|
|
|
Post by Baz Faz on Nov 25, 2014 18:08:05 GMT 2
Of course. And if you accompany the yogurt with 4 cups of coffee (see my post of 14 Nov) you will be really well armoured against diabetes.

Haha ! That's funny because I am quite fascinated with the shape of Romanesco and love looking at it, so this medical claim is probably true
