The thread I usually have the most difficulty to post in is "one positive thing about your day today.."

There is a website called Quora. It's one of those question on any subject and answer types. Some are quite interesting. I've been browsing through it for a couple of days and it has been spoiled for me by a know-it-all who must refresh his browser every ten seconds to find another one he can answer because he seems to be the first poster on tons of them. I'm moaning because I dislike know-it-alls. There's a couple on the TT as well who split hairs, are pedantic and pretentious.

Our poor dog had a very expensive visit to the vet today because of grass seeds (from spear grass) which worked into her paw and ear. I am also not looking forward to keep her quiet over the next 10 days or so...

We are invited out to "drinks" this evening and I really object to this. We have to stop whatever we're doing at 5.30 so we can shower and change and drive out for...what? Some nibbles and a glass of wine (that's the drink/drive limit and the gendarmes are quite active round here with random checks). Then we return home and I have to cook a meal. And the hosts, who came here for dinner last month, feel they have repaid our hospitality.
Actually they are a bit strange about inviting people. We had dinner there a couple of years ago. She is a painter, South African, and she said, "In South Africa we don't have starters, we have nibbles with drinks before the meal." What a load of crap. She forgets I was born in Durban.

Baz, it'll all be better in the UK. Not many people invite others to their home. it's more a question of meeting at a pub or some eaterie. Or at least that's my impression.

my moan is that I have terrible vertigo and a headache and fever - and basically have to stay lying down with the blinds drawn. In fact, must go do that again right now.. on some pills since last night, but not much improvement yet.

So you would love to cook twice for Baz Zibs? Indeed... ...a dinner and a breakfast for instance. I'd cook him a fish on the barbeque...onion and garlic in. Serve fresh green salad sauced with wonderful olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and a tiny bit of promaganate sauce, and grill red peppers on the bbq, sauced the same way with garlic again..he could have some white cheese and butter on grilled bread as a starter and some "haydari", or sauced green olive pieces... offer him a cognac shot or shots:D earlier to update and get the flavor of his mouth ready and freshen all the way down, wine with meal, and raki with fruits after. or just as he wishes... I could serve him, well not cooked but, carefully bought baklava with black tea in the end. ..breakfast is another story well, hope one day.

Doncha love Merkin schools. My daughters each brought home to me today a letter comprising of four sides of A4. It is close to the end of the year. It was headed - "Student profile Assessment. Habits of Learning" It appears to be a report on how they have learned throughout the year. Not what they have learnt but 'how' they have. It must have taken the teachers days to compile. It comprises section after section with headings like 'Comments on Student Performance as a Creator and Innovator' Utterly unnecessary and total bullshit.
Next - the school sent me an invitation to a Night of Reflections (a gathering to reflect over the year). It requested an RSVP. I replied, "I'm sorry I am unable to attend but my mirror image will gladly do so."

I found out today that a dear friend's two year old grandson has a cancerous tumor on one of his kidneys. He's facing removal of the kidney and five months of chemo. So sad for the family and angry that the blight of cancer is still hanging over all our heads.

MissA, yes the Saffer painter. In the end I didn't go as I had a chest infection. Mrs Faz said I even had a light fever.

What annoys me is queuing up to go through the supermarket check-out and the woman ahead of me unloading everything onto the belt holding her bag in one hand. She really struggled with a large bag of cat litter and I didn't offer to help. A mean-minded revenge, I admit.

They keep moving heavy construction equipment by my house. When it drives down the street the earth literally shakes. Feels like an earthquake. I'm tired of it-it reminds me of being in real earthquakes and it's sometimes hard to tell the difference. Stressful.

We are writing to inform organisations about our move to the UK. So I am filleting the files to get the addresses I need to write to. I come across one company that says at the bottom of a statement: Address as shown. Nothing is shown so I turn over the page and on the back it says: Address as shown. Nothing is shown. Grrr.
