Because we were going to be away for a few days when our house sale contract was to be signed we gave a power of attorney to the notaire. Today, finally, we were sent a copy of the contract signed by the buyers and by the notaire on our behalf. Guess what? We weren't there to check everything and the notaire has used the uncorrected draft contract complete with the wrong date on it (plus other errors). This has been signed by the purchasers and by the notaire on our behalf.
Notaires in France are greedy, corrupt and inefficient.

ouch! is there any way you can rearrange another signing? I understand it is perfectly legal but not to your liking. Hope it can be solved.

That's one account that payment will be delayed on. Hopefully it won't create too many issues.
A few years ago I signed a house sale document in a hurry and didn't notice a comma. Washing machine taps (which are plumbed in here) become washing machine, taps. The purchasers were nasty revolting individuals and insisted on taking the washing machine. Fortunately it was an older one and karma struck as the motor blew within a few weeks.

I don't think it will cause problems but it might. There is a clause suspensive in the contract: if the buyers of our house cannot sell their house by a particular date then they can pull out without penalty. It's crazy and all the risk is ours but that's French law. We need to give 2 months notice to the tenants we have rented our English house to so we need to give them notice to quit by 30th May to have them out on 30th July. So we must know absolutely that we have sold the house here by 30th May. This date was originally written into the sale contract but we had it changed to 28th May so that we would have a day or two's leeway to tell the tenants in England to leave. But the notaire has used the original uncorrected contract and that is what has been signed in our absence.
Notaires in France are a pain. When we bought our house here the notaire (a different one) insisted we hand over a paper cheque for the sale price. But, we pointed out, an electronic transfer from the notaire who was carrying out the sale of our house in the Hérault to her bank account would be instantaneous and totally safe (notaire to notaire). But she point blank refused. So we had to bring forward the sale of our house by a day, go at 6 pm to the notaire who proceeded to read aloud the entire contract, getting us to agree it. Then she wrote out the cheque and we could leave. It was then about 7 pm. We had already had a hell of a day with the furniture removers and were faced with a 5 hour drive, much of it on roads we didn't know in the dark. In the end we gave up and found a hotel for the night. So we arrived here, pretty stressed, at this house because the removal men had to get the furniture in quickly. Someone from the estate agency was waiting on our doorstep with the contract for us. While Mrs Faz was directing the removal men where to put the furniture I went out to the back and sat on some steps to read through the contract which the notaire had never sent to us. I got to page 2 and found: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Yes, a series of xxx where she had not got the information. And then more xxx and more xxx. This was the contract to be signed.
It gets worse. There was a frantic call from the estate agent: the notaire (who obviously hadn't looked at the draft contract for weeks) was refusing to accept the survey that had been done to check there were no lead pipes (or something). If the notaire wasn't satisfied the sale would collapse. The sellers of the house fortunately hadn't left the area yet and were contacted by mobile phone and by pure good luck had the necessary papers with them in the car.
I could go on about the awfulness of notaires with examples of where they have included buildings to be sold that shouldn't have been, of forging signatures, of holding onto money that belonged to the client hoping the client would forget (happened to us), but enough.

Our house should be sold 2 months today. Then we have a couple of weeks while we are homeless until the tenants' lease on our house ends. We might take a few days holiday in France. We'll see.

I was trying to get the hedge round the pool cut before the rain came and was getting careless as I hurried and I cut the cable. Curses.

Tell me that HT...I have the same, just half hour ago I have spent the amount of energy that could be enough for a day in 30 minutes to explain a customer request and why it must be done.

Typical. Head honcho delegated the events manager to organise a function. Now she's called in sick ( ? raises a few eyebrows as she's been complaining about this function for weeks) and I'm going to have to step in and complete it before 3pm today but she's left no paper work and her phone isn't being answered. People who think they work in isolation are a real pain.

We have been sent a new Live Box (for Wi-Fi in the house). Installing it is a nightmare. It seemed to take about half an hour installing stuff that only afterwards did it say we had to pay for. It got rid of my Google homepage and substituted an Orange homepage which is awful. We have to return the old Livebox. Postage is free but it seems you have to google for the nearest collection point. You have to put in your address and it refused to recognise it. It refused to recognise ANY address, even Paris. Hopeless.

We took a picnic and went on a walk today. We came across a house that looked abandoned. There was a postbox by the side of the road so I opened the flap to see if there was any post. I couldn't see in so I stuck my fingers in. It was a wasps' nest. Jesus! I am just too inquisitive.
