Question.
How long does it normally take the pain of having teeth pulled to subside? I've had several extractions but don't remember anything as painful as this time. It will have been a week tomorrow and I'm still hurting. Not like a toothache but my whole mouth ... gums, tongue, teeth ... feels as if it's been hammered. Doesn't help that as a result of the dental work, it's now full of canker sores. Also, 24/7 throbbing headache. I've used meds, herbs, teas, manuka honey, pain pills, anything I have to try to ease the pain. No go. Can't sleep, hurts to eat. Damn, I'm messed up.
Have any magical remedies? Is this common and maybe I was just lucky before?

your symptoms make me think of some infection ethel. you need to rinse your mouth lots and lots and lots and it should help with the canker sores as well. myrrh tincture would work wonders for this. in its absence, I'd use a strong infusion of sage or at least some salty water (it's going to hurt the canker sores as hell, but it's going to sort them out too).
and yes, where's Tilly?

Yep, sage is very good for sores in your mouth. Wonder if it would be worth calling the dentist Ethel ? Wounds inside the mouth usually heal up quite quick. A week seems a little long to me.

yes, it is. I didn't suggest antibiotics because I understand ethel doesn't react well to them. but a word with a pro should help. with all my love, ethel.

Saw the dentist on Thurs and was told it was healing "nicely and no dry socket." Taking artimisinin and GSE to ward off infection. rinsing frequently with warm salt water. About to slit my wrists!

Mouth pain still a bitch. Saw dentist today. She said it "may or may not" (wtf?) be dry socket. She did a few painful probes in the hole and said it could also be bone bits. SO, fucking x-ray it awready. No, we'll wait a few days she says. WTF again. Cleansed it with antibiotic something or other and packed it with some numbing something or other. THANK GAWD!!! Said if pain doesn't go away, come back in 2 or 3 days. WTF?! If it's dry socket, she said it will likely take up to 6 or 7 weeks to heal. Oh yippie.
Sum Fun Facts ...
"Dry socket is more likely to occur following a difficult tooth extraction.[2] It is thought that excessive force applied to the tooth, or excessive movement of the tooth burnishes the bony walls of the socket and crushes blood vessels, impairing the repair process.[2] It has also been shown that dry socket is more likely to occur when an inexperienced surgeon performed the extraction,[1] possibly because excessive force or excessive tooth movements are used." I can assure you that excessive force and movement were used.
"Vasoconstrictors Vasoconstrictors are present in most local anesthetics, and are intended to increase the length of analgesia by reducing blood supply to the region which reduces the amount of local anesthetic solution that is absorbed into the circulation and carried from the local tissues. Hence, use of local anesthetics with vasoconstrictors is associated with an increased risk of dry socket occurring.[2] However, frequently use of local anesthetic without vasoconstrictors would not provide sufficient analgesia, especially in the presence of acute pain and infection, meaning that the total dose of local anesthetic may need to be increased. Adequate pain control during the extraction is balanced against an increased risk of dry socket.
If a dry socket occurs, the total healing time is increased. Postoperative pain is also worse than the normal discomfort which accompanies healing following any minor surgical procedure. The pain may last for seven to forty days." Can also assure you that excessive above was used as after they thought I was numb and began the process, I damn near went through the roof and they injected more.
""Dull, aching, throbbing pain in the area of the socket, which is moderate to severe and may radiate to other parts of the head such as the ear, temple and neck.[2][4][6][7] The pain normally starts on the second to fourth day after the extraction,[4][7] and may last 10–40 days.[1] The pain may be so strong that even strong analgesics do not relieve it.[4]" Lovely!
Pardon my long and tedious RTOTM

Gosh, Eth, what a horrific experience. I have only had one tooth extracted - a wisdom - and was warned how horrific it would be. The dentist (here in France) seemed to drill most of the tooth out, sort of hollowing it, then picked the thin walls out. There was no yanking and pulling. And even when the anaesthetic wore off there was no pain.
I dedicate my open scissors to Eth finding tooth peace.

It's still 33° at 11:35pm. The temperature may have dropped 10 degrees, but it's still stinking hot. They reckon 31° by 3am, getting down to 29° at 6am tomorrow morning. Another three days of this.

I am anguished and furious at a video which was just showed on TV. An old woman in care of a younger one, an employee, who was diagnosed parkinson or alzheimer, one of those. was being hit and misstreated by said carer. It was VERY violent and disgusting.
Just made me cry. There is no respect for the elder at all... silly people, we will all get there...

Mrs Faz's sister has just taken 232 interior photos of our new house without furniture so we can see what it is like. She is sending them to us in 4 photo emails. Our computer will have pages of them. We thought she could send us a CD of the photos to Hedonista (where we'll be in a fortnight) but she is persisting.
